New anti-discrimination Regulations implementation dates

New anti-discrimination Regulations implementation dates:

  • Race Relations Act 1976 (Amendment) Regulations SI 2003/1626 - 19 July 2003.
  • Sex Discrimination Act 1975 (Amendment) Regulations SI 2003/1657 - 19 July 2003.
  • Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulations SI 2003/1661 - 1 December 2003.
  • Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations SI 2003/1660 - 2 December 2003.
  • Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (Amendment) Regulations SI 2003/1673 - 1 October 2004.

These Regulations respectively provide for the first time that a discrimination claim may be brought in respect of events that took place after the termination of employment, provided that the claim ‘arises out of and is closely connected to the employment relationship’. The existing law covering discrimination on grounds of sex, race and disability has already been amended in order to achieve this.
