About us
Steen & Co Employment Solicitors' aim is to provide a quality
alternative to the employment law departments of large firms of
solicitors. We only provide employment law advice. Our clients
range from multinational corporations and quoted companies to small
and medium sized enterprises, non governmental bodies, executives
and high net worth individuals. Clients mainly come from recommendations
and in fact in 2005 over 80% of new clients used us as a result
of a recommendation from an existing client. We also receive referrals
from accountants and management consultancies and, for marketing
purposes, make use of Google.
Simon Steen formed Steen & Co Employment Solicitors in 2002.
Simon is a solicitor with over 15 years' employment law experience.
He undertook his first tribunal in 1990, his win for the company
occasioning the headline ‘firm’s cloak and dagger scheme
was fair’. He has worked as an employment solicitor ever
since. His experience includes 5 years working in house as legal
adviser to a company which at the time was in the FTSE 100. This
job involved dealing with not only employment law issues but also
with a wide range of other commercial issues. In 1995 Simon joined
and later became a partner in a large regional firm where he was
recognised in the Legal 500 as a noted employment lawyer 'with
a sound reputation in employment law'. In 2000 he began working
for a very large London firm of solicitors as a senior employment
lawyer and set up Steen & Co Employment Solicitors in 2002.
He has a background in computer science and law and is a member
of the Employment Lawyers Association. He originally qualified
as a barrister in 1989 but re-qualified as a solicitor when partnership
in a solicitors’ firm was offered. Simon plays cricket enthusiastically
but badly for the MCC (sadly, the Moreton Cricket Club not the
other MCC), alternates driving to work in a 12 year old car and
a 33 year old one and doesn’t understand why people drive
new cars.
Sara Lockton is a part one qualified legal executive and very
experienced employment law secretary. She started working with
Simon in 1996
and continued to work for him for 4 years. She then had a spell
as a fee earning legal adviser in a firm of solicitors and returned
to working with Simon at Steen and Co Employment Solicitors in
2004. Sara types, organises, emails, updates databases, takes
details, ensures engagement letters and instruction checklists
are sent,
marshals the solicitors, and remains calm at all times. She is unstinting
in her support of Hull Sharks Rugby League club.
